7 IDEAL FESTIVAL HAIR TIPS

Heading to a summer festival this year? We speak to the experts at Nicky Clarke who share their top tips for great festival hair.

We love getting our festival style on as much as the next person, however looking well groomed at a festival isn’t easy. From tent-head to the perils of the ever changing British weather and the fact you probably won’t shower for days, there’s a lot to contend with.

With the help of the experts at Nicky Clarke, we’ve put together some IDEAL tips for festival hair. So you can’t take you hair dryers, straighteners or curling tongs, you can however do a few of the following:

Prep Before

The morning you leave, get up early and give your hair a good wash. Use an intense moisturising conditioner and a good leave in conditioner.

Use Tongs

Tousled waves are a must for festivals. Get the look by tonging your hair before you go. This will give it movement and shape…..the bigger the better as you have 3-4 days for it to drop and play with.

Accessorise

Hair accessories are huge for summer. Floral garlands, headbands, delicate head chains, feather clips and the obligatory oversized hats are all always cool, but why not try something a little different – use your imagination. If you’ve always wanted to colour your hair a wild shade of pink or blue without the commitment, use some hair chalk

Meet your new best friend

Dry Shampoo is a great product to replenish hair and make it feel fresher. It also adds great texture and builds up some volume at the roots which is ideal when hair gets greasy and ways it down. If Dry Shampoo isn’t an option then go for talcum powder.

Avoid too much product

Serums, waxes etc.  Your hairs natural oil’s will show through themselves so avoid anything else that will make hair oily.

Plait it

There are three reasons for this. Firstly boho braids are a great look for festivals. Secondly they are great for disguising messy, dirty hair.  Also plaiting hair at night will help to keep your curls/ give it lovely wave ready for the next day and avoid frizz.

Don’t touch

Avoid touching your hair throughout the day as dirt on hands will build up grease.

Remember, have fun with your hair. Tong your hair before you go and work it out throughout the weekend by brushing and combing out. Plait Hair to one side or pin the back underneath leaving just the sides out, use bows berets and anything you can think of, and at least one day wear a hat but make sure your hair is still done underneath that hat. Have fun and beware of the beers flying overhead!
