What To Do if You Hate Your Engagement Ring! Expert Tips from Fine Diamond Jeweller Lewis Malka.
Getting engaged should be one of the most happiest days of your life, however what happens if you hate your engagement ring? Now, some people would say that you should suck it up as the ring was chosen out of love, but after a debate on the matter at the IDEAL headquarters we came to the conclusion that you should say something if you really do hate your ring. Firstly engagement rings are expensive so you should both be happy with it, after all you will have to wear it for the rest of your life. An engagement ring isn’t like a pair of shoes that you can wear once and then hide at the back of your wardrobe. An engagement ring is symbolic of your love and every time you look at it you should be able to look at it with joy and happiness, instead of quietly loathing it.
It’s not uncommon for women to dislike or want to change their style of engagement ring, so what do you do when you hate the ring you’ve been proposed to with? Fine diamond jewellery expert Lewis Malka shares his top tips for how to get around this tricky situation.
1. Talk to your partner
By all means be honest with your partner, but not during the proposal! Jewellery is meant to be enjoyed after all. Consider what it is specifically about the ring you dislike; you may feel differently after a few days of wear. You will be wearing it for the rest of your life – so if you don’t like it, change it!
2. Visit a bespoke jeweller
Make an appointment with a specialist like myself to discuss ways that you can work with what you’ve got and can alter the ring to suit you both. The diamond is by all means the most expensive part to any ring. This way you can still keep the gorgeous sparkler but in a design that is more your style, and is the most simple and cost effective way of getting a ring you love.
3. Upgrade your ring
There may also be the option to upgrade the ring, by adding stones on the shoulders or to create a halo design. Again, chat to an expert jeweller to discuss the options available. This of course depends on the budget you have available, but it doesn’t need to cost the earth to get a ring you will be excited to wear.
Haven’t yet bought a ring? Why not propose with a diamond!
It’s not always possible to buy or design a ring they’ll love, which is why Lewis Malka is a strong believer in proposing with a diamond, not a ring. Lewis takes the time to make one-on-one appointments and can assist in finding a diamond they’ll love, packaging it beautifully ready for the big question. Once they’ve said yes (!), you can then revisit and create the perfect ring toge That way, you are absolutely sure to have a ring that you will both love!
